  • PowerEdge R510- Upgrade Raid1 Disk or Add more disks and convert to Raid 5?

    Updated: 2012-09-24 16:49:21
I have a PowerEdge R510, with a PERC H700 Integrated controller. Currently, I have 3 146GB disks wih one being a Hotspare. We have two Windows drives: C:\ & D:\ and we do not want to add additional drives with additional letters. The goal is to implement either of these options without data loss.  1) Add additional 3 146GB drives and convert the Raid1 to a Raid 5. 2) Replace the existing 146GB with 300GB's drives. In theory, by replacing one drive at a time in order to not break the array.  Any clue on how to do this?

I put a T110 II with 1240 processor and 32gb ram in a VMmware lab enviroment without any raid card option in it. Now I need a raid 10 with 4 pc-grade hd configuration due to a required test and I'm looking for a cheap solution. This server seems to support only the Perc H200 wich is vmware friendly. Have you successfully tried any other card on this server? I really don't need a certified solution because of the nature of the business! Thank you. Albert

  • Poweredge 1800 with CERC1.5/6 Adaptec 2610sa

    Updated: 2012-09-17 18:12:04
I have a poweredge 1800 with an adaptec 2610sa sata raid controller card. It is basically the same card as the Dell CERC 1.5/6 sata controller.  I had this working under windows 2008 R2 before. I had to rebuild the server from scratch. Cant find a driver/update that will run under windows 2008 R2.  I think before I loaded the driver during the windows install process. The only drivers I can find are for Windows 2008. They will not install to update the driver via device manager, and everything I have downloaded from Dell will not run on R2.  Any ideas to get it working again?  Thanks.

Then I removed preinstalled RAID5 Virtual Disk, and vreated RAID10 Virtual disk. Now array is initializing. My question is: is it right switching SATA to "RAID" mode? May be, switching it back to "AHCI" mode will be more correct?

I am trying to install Small Business Server 2008 on my PowerEdge 2800 but after I configure and Initilize my drives inside the PERC Utility (RAID 1) I reboot and start to load Windows through the DVD. When I get to "Where do you want to install it" I load the Dell PERC 4e/Di RAID Controller Drivers but it does not find my drives. Got any ideas or suggestions? I can go into the PERC Utility and see them and the Span has been setup correctly. Please Help The only error I am getting is a Memory/Battery Error after my PERC card loads during POST. But I have ordered a new battery for that. Dont think it is the memory. Thanks.
